Don Jazzy, the famed music producer, shares reasons behind not signing Afrobeat stars Davido and Wizkid to his former record label, Mo’ Hits.
In a recent podcast chat with Fisayo Fosudo, the co-founder of Mo’ Hits Records explained that he couldn’t sign Wizkid because Banky W’s EME label got to him first.
He expressed that it would have been amazing if he had the opportunity to sign Wizkid to his label.
Don Jazzy also mentioned other artists he was interested in signing, such as Davido, Falz, Simi, and Teni. Regarding Davido, he mentioned that he had the chance to sign him but felt that the “Assurance” hitmaker would be successful on his own.
He expressed admiration for artists like Simi and Teni, stating that he wished he had signed them. He also mentioned his interest in Falz’s work and revealed that they almost had a deal but it didn’t work out.
Don Jazzy acknowledged that it’s not possible to sign every artist, as it requires significant investment and effort to develop them. He mentioned the existing artists on his roster and the substantial resources needed to support new talent.
