Funke Akindele Responds to Petition Over AMVCA Results; Controversies Surround the Awards as expressed by her colleague.
Renowned actress Funke Akindele has expressed her reaction to a petition filed by her colleague, Alesh Sanni, addressing the organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2023 regarding her movie, “Battle on Buka Street.”
Despite being the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, Funke Akindele’s omission from the winners’ list at the 2023 AMVCA surprised many. On Instagram, Alesh Sanni attributed the movie’s low ratings to its unaffordability in cinemas.
He pointed out that the availability of the film on Prime Video garnered positive reviews and testimonies about its accolades.
Alesh Sanni also acknowledged the exceptional performances of Funke Akindele and Mercy Johnson in the movie, praising their portrayal of their respective roles. He shared his thoughts on Instagram, saying, “AMVCA organizers can do better pls.
Now that #BattleOnBukaStreet is on Prime Video, I hope those who missed it in the cinema can now witness that Funke Akindele is a legend. Mercy Johnson brought all the onions to that movie. This movie made me laugh and cry. Well done @funkejenifaakindele #mercyjohnson.”
Funke Akindele responded to Alesh Sanni’s petition with appreciation, writing, “Ose dear” (meaning “Thank you, dear” in Yoruba).
Alesh Sanni’s petition to the AMVCA organizers is not the first of its kind. Controversies arose during the 2023 award show, with many accusing the organizers of allegedly denying certain celebrities their deserving awards, as reported by TSZ Naija.
