Wizkid, the frontman and owner of Starboy Records, previously held the record for the highest ranking Nigerian song on the Billboard Hot 100 when his smash single ‘Essence,’ which featured acclaimed Nigerian soprano Tems and Canadian popstar Justin Bieber, reached at No. 9 on the chart.
Rema’s famous song ‘Calm Down,’ featuring Selena Gomez, has spent a record 18 weeks at No. 1 on the list this week, surpassing Wizkid and Tems’ 2020 ‘Essence,’ which went 17 weeks at the top.
However, ‘Calm Down’ fell one spot to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

The song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last week, making it the highest-charting and longest-running Nigerian single in the chart’s history.
‘Calm Down’ also debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard Song of the Summer chart, making it the first African song to do so.
