Iyabo Ojo uploaded documents from a personal income tax letter on Instagram and voiced her displeasure with the excessive amount the government was demanding in the post.
The actress demanded an explanation from Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State administration in her post, expressing her concerns.
She criticized the lack of openness in the computation method and questioned the rationale for such high personal income taxes.
The actress cited an incident in which she complied with the government’s request to explain her earnings and register her income but did not receive a response.
“Last time, you people asked me to come to your office, I came, you asked me to explain & declare what I earn, which I did with my tax consultant, but noooooooooooooo you did not respond to my letter, bcos you want me to pay you an outrageous amount that I do not have,” she expressed in her Instagram caption.
The mother of two expressed her concerns about the government’s lack of sensitivity to the difficulties that people and businesses experience since she felt overburdened by the growing financial load that was being placed on her.
She questioned the contributions of the government to her life, stating, “What have you people ever done for me as a government? NOTHING!!! I have single-handedly raised my kids & so many others, plus myself without a single penny from the government.”
Ojo has already taken to the public to express her displeasure with Lagos State’s taxing practices.
She released tax documents on Instagram in 2019 and bemoaned the high taxes endangering her business.
She talked about how difficult it was for her to turn a profit while still having to pay for things like rent, salaries, maintenance, and numerous taxes levied by the federal and state governments.
As of right moment, neither Governor Sanwo-Olu nor the administration of Lagos State have officially responded to Ojo’s accusations or requests for an explanation.
The actress is steadfast in her beliefs and ready to face any repercussions for speaking up.
